Pastoral Succession Plan Symposium Dec 2, 2023 @ 12:30 - 3 pm
There is an old saying that, “the most dangerous times in any airline flight is at takeoff and at landing.” For many different reasons the same can be said of the challenge to maintain the health and the well-being of the local church when facing the sunrise or the sunset of a pastoral season. It is a very sad and tragic reality that more times than not Churches are not adequately prepared for the season of transition that follows the resignation, retirement, or death of its current pastor. These same churches are equally ill-equipped to recruit and select an appropriate pastoral successor and to adequately undergird the launch of a new pastoral season. As a result, horror story after horror story is told of local churches that experience severe set-backs, some irreparable, during the transition from one pastor to the next. Sharp declines in member attendance and participation, disruption of critical ministry programs offered, debilitating drops in financial contributions, in-fighting and power struggles that lead to the erosion and eventually the devastation to congregational morale are all the hallmarks of churches who had no Pastoral Succession Plan in place at the time that they entered a season of pastoral transition. These unfortunate congregations have learned the hard way the wisdom of the unknown but certainly not unwise sage who said that, “The failure to plan is to plan to fail.”
Hence, the Pastoral Succession Plan, is an attempt to prevent such a fate as described above for the New Beginnings Christian Fellowship. This PASTORAL SUCCESSION PLAN aims at establishing a planned readiness for the inevitability of pastoral transition.
